A Parish Clerk is the council’s principal officer and is responsible for ensuring that the parish council operates efficiently, lawfully and transparently. As the council’s adviser and administrator, the Clerk prepares agendas, attends meetings, records minutes and implements decisions, while providing independent guidance to councillors on legal, governance and procedural matters. The Clerk also acts as the council’s main point of contact, managing correspondence and liaising with residents, local authorities and other organisations.
In many councils, including Grimley, the Clerk is additionally the Responsible Financial Officer, overseeing budgets, accounts and audits to ensure public funds are properly managed. Overall, the role is central to the smooth day‑to‑day running of the council and the delivery of services and projects for the local community. The role is funded by the parish council precept (portion of council tax). Your Grimley Parish Clerk works from home but is happy to attend the parish to look at issues and matters important to you. Please get in touch.
Your Parish Clerk creates the parish council budget in October each year. If there is a project that you want the Parish Council to look at, October is the best time to get in touch, so that the Councillors have time to debate priorities and look at budget scenarios and try to incorporate any reasonable resident request. Why not pop along to one of our parish council meetings, usually the 3rd Monday of a month, to find out more.
